Showing entrepreneurial spirit, Mercy is also a small business owner. She bought a car and started a one-car rental business through which she earns about as much as she earns in her job. She also volunteers for the Kenyan Red Cross, distributing sanitary supplies so girls are able to stay in school during their menstrual cycle. Mercy exemplifies how the love, support, and education our children receive can transform into a productive and generous life. print

Fun, Football, and Financial Literacy
This Saturday was truly fantastic! We had an absolute blast at the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation. After a delicious and hearty meal, we kicked off the day with a football tournament “Alive and Kicking.” It was a joy to see our boys split into three teams, all giving their best on the field. When one team scored, the other graciously stepped aside for the next team. The skill and creativity displayed by each player were remarkable.

But the fun didn’t end there! Our dance team was also in full swing, showcasing their best modern moves. The ladies had big smiles as they danced with great enthusiasm. Watching their energy and love for dancing was a delight.
Our financial literacy team was equally engaged, asking smart questions about handling money wisely and making the most of our savings. It’s never too early to learn about managing finances, and it was inspiring to see the kids eager to understand.
To wrap things up, we handed out candy and biscuits to the children, giving them a chance to reflect on the day and connect with each other. It was heartwarming to see them enjoying themselves and making new friends.

Afterward, we all gathered for a delicious lunch, but the best part of the day was yet to come. After our very first football tournament, The kids were overjoyed. They even asked for an extra match, which we happily played.
Meanwhile, our financial literature club was in full swing, with the kids eagerly listening and learning about important money matters. They absorbed valuable knowledge like sponges!
For the puzzle enthusiasts among us, we had mind-bending challenges that kept the kids thinking and exploring until they completed the tasks.
Our young artists had their time to shine too. They poured their hearts into creating beautiful drawings and artworks.
Later on, we gathered the children for some important announcements and a short lesson on selflessness and respect by our wonderful mentor and case worker, Wence.
To wrap things up, we enjoyed some tasty snacks, and the kids had a chance to mingle and share their thoughts. It was a memorable Saturday filled with fun, learning, and togetherness.

Meet Natalia who Aspires to Become an Army Police
My name is Natalia and I live with my mother and sister, and we share a close bond. Currently, I’m a student in grade 6 at Nelson Mandela School, and I have a strong passion for a particular subject – Agriculture. It’s incredible to learn about how we can take care of the environment and contribute positively to our planet through this subject. In addition to my studies, I’m an active participant in extracurricular activities at school. One of my favorites is playing football. It’s not just a game for me; it’s a way to stay active and make friends. Besides school, I also have a wonderful Saturday routine. I eagerly look forward to the Saturday program at NRCF because it’s filled with fun games and activities that bring so much excitement to my weekends.
Initially, I was part of the dance group, but I later made the decision to join the Taekwondo team, which I absolutely adore. Taekwondo has taught me discipline, self-defense, and how to push my limits. It’s a sport that empowers me and brings out the best in me. One of my absolute favorite places at NRCF is the Elimu Hub, particularly the library. I have a deep love for reading storybooks, and the library is like a treasure for me. I use it not only for my personal reading but also to find books that can help me with my schoolwork. Knowledge is power, and I believe that reading opens up a world of possibilities.
Another part of the Elimu Hub that I find fascinating is the computer lab. During my free time, I enjoy writing letters to my sponsor, expressing my gratitude for their support, and sharing updates about my life. I also like to unwind by playing games on the computer.
When I think about my future, I have a strong aspiration. I dream of becoming an army police officer because I want to contribute to the safety and well-being of my country. It’s a challenging path, but I’m determined to work hard and make a positive impact.
I am grateful to NRCF for the incredible education sponsorship they provide. It’s not just about receiving an education; it’s about the opportunities, the friendships, and the experiences that have enriched my life. NRCF has been a guiding light in my journey, and I am excited to see where my education and determination will take me in the years to come.
