Sallyanne

Sallyanne lives in Ngando Village with her grandmother, two uncles, two aunts, her sister (who is also in the program), brother, and one cousin.  They live in a one-roomed house with electricity.  Sallyanne attends Jagiet Academy where she does well but wants to do better.

Sallyanne's Story:

My name is Sallyanne Atieno.I am eleven years old but I will be turning twelve in August fifteenth this year.  I live with my grandmother who is called Beatrice Ocholla.I also live with my one sister called Stacey Grace Achieng and my brother Damien Okwiri.

We live in a single room house which is made of sheet iron. My grandmother sleep on the bed but I, my sister and my brother sleep on the mattress which is kept on the floor.

I go to Jagiet Academy School with my sister but my brother gets his education in a school called Children of Africa Academy.

About my health I have a disease called Amoeba and also am suffering from Pneumonia but my brother and sister are fine.

I do well in my examinations because I am improving.  I  say this because last term I was position eleven with three hundred and thirteen marks, but now am in position eight with three hundred and sixty two marks.

Our house uses electricity but sometimes it gets lost for about a week. It is because the wire that connects to houses is not stable.

And because the economy of the country is bad, we have to struggle so much so as to get enough money to buy the basic necessities. And it is also hard for us to eat a balanced meal everyday.

The place that we are living in is not in a good condition. There is sewage inside the area (compound) which they made so that we can pour water but it has blocked and so the water does not pass through. And because of that it makes the sewage smell so bad. And sometimes people fall inside there. And sometimes the toilets block and the feces, dirty water and smell come out. And it makes the environment polluted.

We live in Ngando village near a college called Augustus College which is also where we go for concerts for children.

I am happy because Ngong Road Children Association pays for my school fees and for my sister's.
