Cristian

In a family of five, Cristian is the second born in his family they live in Kabiria. Cristian’s mother is a casual laborer in the community, she does laundry and fetches water for middle-class families. However things have changed over time, covid made it even hard. Each day gets tough on her as living standards are rising every day, and the little she gets is split into buying food as well as paying rent. Cristian is out of school since his mother is not able to get his school fees.
The single room that he and his family lives in is made from timber and concrete, the same room has a small kitchen just at the entrance of the room. The room is divided into two by a curtain. The front part after you enter the house is two old couches where his elder brother sleeps for the night, at the center of the house is the only table in the house where Cristian does his studies.
Cristian dreams big, and he aspires to be an Army General once he successfully completes his studies. His favorite subjects are Mathematics and Christian Religious Education. His favorite food is fried meat and rice. During his Leisure time,he enjoys playing outdoor games with his friends and he is also a good dancer.

Asha

Asha is an active girl who loves doing hands-on DIY projects like knitting, sewing and plaiting hair. She has big aspirations of being a neurosurgeon in the future. However, she is worried that she might not be able to achieve her dreams with the current situation they are in. Asha’s school attendance has been very low attributed to the parent’s inability to cater to her school fees and the family’s needs at the same time.
Asha loves reading and works hard in school and she believes that education will be the key to her success In the future. Asha’s best subject in school is mathematics and she does really well in it. She is a top performer in school and that is evident in the entry exam she sat for, getting 39 out of 40 points. Asha is also a talented dancer and spends her free time practicing new dance moves. In her school, she is part of the dance crew.
Asha lives with her mom and dad together with her four siblings, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. The family of seven live in a single-room house made of iron sheets). Asha sleeps on a bed in the corner of the house together with her sister. The house is subdivided by curtains. On average the family is able to afford two meals a day that is breakfast and dinner. Most of the time they have to forego lunch and sometimes breakfast. Their house is connected to electricity and this helps Asha to do her homework and further revision at night.
Caroline, Asha’s mom really wishes for her child to join the program so that she can get a quality uninterrupted education. She speaks highly of her daughter and describes her as a hardworking girl who is a fast learner, well-mannered and respectful.Asha is already in our focus school Jagiet, and if sponsored will continue her studies there.
