Tom Gleason:  Operations, Camp Leader

Tom and Lorna Gleason became sponsors in Friends of Ngong Road in 2006.   As Tom learned more about the program he discovered that there were many ways that he could contribute to the development of the organization and to the experiences of the children in the program. 

Responsibilities at Friends of Ngong Road

He was asked to join the board in 2007 and remains on the board today running our operations and leading our annual summer camps.  

Tom is responsible for the information systems developed in support of the program both here and in Kenya.  He has developed the database which tracks donations, sponsorships, and children.  He oversees the operational execution of the various processes which support our donation tracking and the recording of information about the children, their schools, school marks, health care treatments and families.  He has helped to train the staff in Kenya. 

Starting in December, 2007, Tom has worked with Jackson Katunzi as co-director of the annual camp.  Today, camp provides a fun learning experience for all the children in the Ngong Road Children Association program as well as provides an opportunity to experience working with the kids and our staff as a camp volunteer.  Camp has evolved from a day camp full of fun and games to an overnight camp which teaches leadership, teamwork and life skills as well as provides a yearly highlight of fun for over 350 children.
