Give the Gift of Education this Holiday!

Honor someone with a unique gift

Gift of education

We know that shopping and trying to find the right gift is hard. We invite you to give a gift that is meaningful and makes a difference in the life of a child.

With education and support from Friends of Ngong Road, our students have the opportunity to attend school, develop strong life skills, and secure employment. They transform their lives and uplift their family and community. They are often able to leave the slums and, in most cases, help others in their family. Education not only transforms a life but also ends the cycle of poverty for generations.

This holiday season, consider giving the gift of education.

Donate to our annual appeal in honor of someone on your holiday list and we will send them a card acknowledging your gift.

Give the gift of a sponsorship. Transform the life of an individual student through the ongoing support of their school tuition and fees. You provide the funds, and your loved one develops a relationship with a student in Kenya. This is a great gift for a child or grandchild so that they learn what life is like for kids similar in age in Kenya. To gift a sponsorship this holiday season, email naomi@ngongroad.org or call 612-568-4211.

A sponsor’s recent trip to Nairobi

A unique element of our program is that it allows for sponsors to have a one on one relationship with their student, often sparking a special bond between them. This bond grows even stronger when sponsors have the opportunity to meet their students. We always encourage sponsors to take this life changing trip to meet their sponsored student and get a glimpse of how they are helping their student transform their life. One sponsor, Brittany, and her daughter Amina took a trip to meet their sponsored student Crystal.

Their experience:

sponsor a student in Kenya

Our recent trip to Kenya was a truly unforgettable experience, thanks in large part to our visit with Crystal. Meeting her and her family was heartwarming; they welcomed us with such kindness and generosity. We had the pleasure of visiting Crystal at St. George’s Primary School, where she excels in her studies. Seeing her enthusiasm and dedication firsthand was incredibly rewarding.

Our time in Kenya was filled with memorable moments. We enjoyed feeding giraffes at the Giraffe Centre, an experience both fun and educational. At Stedmark Garden, we explored a variety of animals from Kenya and beyond, which was both fascinating and enlightening.

One of the highlights was attending the Saturday program with Ngong Road students, where we shared a meal and participated in activities together. This trip not only deepened our appreciation for the impact of sponsorship but also enriched our lives with the warmth and spirit of Kenya. We are grateful for the opportunity to support Crystal and look forward to more experiences like this in the future.

Mildred, An Aspiring Pediatrician

My name is Mildred. I am 15 years old, and my hobby is drawing because it’s an escape from reality, where imagination comes to life. It’s a way to express emotions, pay attention to detail, and find solace in solitude. My favorite sports are volleyball and football.

aspiring pediatrician

I am in Form 1 studying at Kijabe Girls High School. I am currently the class monitor and my work is to maintain order, communicate with teachers, and represent the class. My favorite subjects are Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. because they are fascinated by the natural world and how it works. Exploring biology, chemistry, and physics can provide a deep understanding of the universe, from the smallest cells to the vast cosmos.

I aspire to be a pediatrician because, ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by doctors and how they help people get better. I especially love seeing kids smile and feel better after a visit to the doctor. I want to be a pediatrician to help kids grow healthy and happy, just like my role model, Dr. Benjamin Spock. I’ll be able to teach their parents how to keep them safe and healthy,

I’ve always dreamed of visiting Thailand. The country’s rich culture, stunning beaches, and delicious cuisine have captivated me for years. I’m particularly drawn to the ancient temples and historical sites, which offer a glimpse into Thailand’s fascinating past.

By supporting Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, you’re not just helping an individual; you’re investing in a future leader who will make a positive impact on the world.

Sheila’s story; Coding, football, and future aspirations

My name is Sheila, and I am 18 years old. Growing up, my life was very challenging. There were few opportunities available to me, and the future seemed unclear and scary. Everything changed when I got the chance to join the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation. The foundation did more than just provide me with a safe place to go to school; it gave me hope and a real chance to succeed. They encouraged me to dream big and believe in a better future.

Ngong Road Children's Foundation success story

At the Elimu Hub, I discovered a love for coding—a new world of logic and creativity. I also love playing football with the other kids. Football isn’t just a game; it lets me forget my worries and teaches me about teamwork and perseverance. I never thought I would become a class monitor or a club representative. However, through the Life skills training by Ngong Road Children’s Foundation gave me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone and believe in myself.

I’m currently making my way to university, facing the choice between pursuing a degree in Economics or Computer Science. Both paths seem to hold promising prospects. I am grateful for all the experiences and opportunities that have come my way. Looking ahead in ten years, I envision myself achieving financial stability, providing support for my family, and actively contributing to the betterment of the community.

The Ngong Road Children’s Foundation has played a crucial role in shaping my life. It’s not just about the education they provide; it’s the strong foundation they’ve given me to pursue my dreams. When I struggled to believe in myself, they were there, unwavering in their support and belief in my potential. Now, equipped with their guidance and encouragement, I feel empowered to fearlessly tackle the challenges that come my way. This profound transformation in my life is all thanks to the unwavering support of the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation.

Fun, games, and learning

egg and spoon race

This past Saturday, our program welcomed back high school students from their mid-term break with a day full of fun games and valuable learning experiences. At the same time, our primary school students had a blast participating in crazy games and enjoying a delicious lunch. The day was designed to provide all participants a safe and engaging environment.

Ball Tug of War

During the event, high school students were educated on the importance of sexual reproductive health. They also had the opportunity to learn workout dancing, promoting physical fitness and well-being. The program also featured a thrilling performance by one of our talented students, Vincent, who captivated the crowd with his skills. The day concluded with snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Promoting Sexual Reproductive Health for a Healthy Future

“We had an amazing time at the Saturday event. It was great to learn about sexual reproductive health and try out new dance moves,” said a high school student. Meanwhile, a primary school student exclaimed, “The primary school games were so much fun! We laughed, played, and bonded with our friends. The lunch was delicious too!” Both age groups enjoyed a day filled with learning, laughter, and camaraderie at the event.

Suppose you would like to support our program and create more positive experiences and opportunities for the children in our community. In that case, we encourage you to consider donating, volunteering, or spreading the word. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children.
