Praiseleen is forced to endure and withstand tough and harsh situations in a small single room where she lives with her mother and younger brother. She recently lost her father in a fatal road accident as he was driving to the western part of Kenya. Before the accident, life was already hard and now they feel like every hardship has doubled itself now that their father is no longer in the picture. They had sold some of their household furniture to cater for his burial expenses and now they are left with almost nothing in terms of material things.
Her mother used to sell refreshment drinks along the road but she also got into an accident and injured her leg and now she is not able to walk or stand without using crutches and this has therefore left her jobless and unable to do anything heavy. Remaining with only one parent who is injured, She has no other option but to just stay at home due to lack of school fees and the mother needs her to help her out with the basic house chores now that she is not in a position to work on them herself.
Their survival is in God’s hands as said by the mother. Any moment she gets to be in school, her favorite subjects are Mathematics and English which are usually taught by her favorite teacher, who is also her class teacher. Her favorite color is pink because she always looks pretty and elegant whenever she wears pink clothes. The rare times she gets to eat ‘chapati’ she feels excited. She enjoys playing hide and seek with her friends. When she is not playing, you will always find her buried in her books and novels reading something that will help her get somewhere and transform her life.
She is a good singer as well and she is the lead singer in the Sunday school classes. Playing with cats usually excites her and helps her to stay calm all the time. She would like to be a doctor when she grows up so that she can improve the living standards of her family and her neighborhood. She wants to save people’s lives and make people like her mother walk again and not struggle so much.
