Angel

Angel is 8 years old. Angel was orphaned at the age of four after losing her single mom and has therefore been living with her aunty. The child and the family live in a single-room house made of iron sheets and timber in Kawangware slums. The child and her aunt are being hosted by a friend of her aunt. The aunt lost her job last year and it has been hard to make ends meet. Her friend is a community health worker. The income that she gets is what she uses to provide for her family the three additional guests. The aunt is optimistic that things will get better eventually.
At home, there is a double-decker bed in which Angel, her brother, and aunt share. The other bed is shared by the host friend and her daughter. The house is small but that is where they have to live until things better for her aunty. The house has electricity connected to it and therefore, Angel, her brother (Surnley), and the host’s daughter are able to conduct their revision even at night without a problem. Their house is not self-contained and therefore, they get water for domestic use from the nearest water vendors at Ksh.8 per twenty liters jerrican. They also share washrooms with their neighbors. They prepare their meals using a kerosene stove or charcoal stove as they are the most affordable for the family.
She loves school and would like to successfully finish school and be a teacher or police so that she can ensure people are safe in the future. She is however constantly sent home from school due to school fee arrears. She has been out of school for a whole term and a half. Due to the relationship we have fostered over the years, we have therefore requested our Jagiet academy to help keep her in school as we look for someone to sponsor her. During the recent selection interview, she did excellently great and managed to Exceed expectations. When she gets a sponsor, the child will be able to continue schooling at Jagiet Academy and therefore be able to benefit from quality education.
