Brighton has been attending school at Jagiet which is one of our focus schools. They live in the slums of Kawangware in a single-room iron sheets house with timber. The single room has curtains diving the house into the living room, kitchen and bedroom all the same. The house is furnished with two old seats, a table, and two beds. The Children share a bed and the Aunt sleeps on the other bed.
Brighton shares a bed with her cousin while the aunt utilizes the other bed. Brighton lives with his aunt and a cousin younger than him. Brighton’s aunt depends on casual labor to survive and provide for the children. However, it’s hard surviving for the family in providing for all the basic needs. Hence they are forced to survive on only one meal so that she can make ends meet.
They use a candle to light the house and for Brighton to study in the evenings. The house is connected to electricity. However, they don’t use electricity since they cannot pay for it. They use a kerosene stove to make meals.
They share a bathroom and a latrine with several other neighbors who live in the same plot. The environmental condition is not conducive for the children. However, they have no choice but to be content with the situation with the hope that things will get better with time.
Brighton would like to be a Pilot. He loves dancing and rapping and he is also a scout. He also loves fashion, modeling, and design. His favorite subjects are CRE, Mathematics, and English. Brighton loves to be in school and is really working hard in school so he can achieve his dream. In the recent exam, he exceeds expectations. His aunt too is hopeful and expectant that the organization will help transform Brighton’s life by keeping him in school.
