Verah is in Ndurarua primary school, when she gets sponsored in our program she will join Jagiet Primary because it’s one of our focus schools. Vera wakes up at 5:30 am to prepare for school, the school is 30 minutes away. Hence Verah walks from home to school and back. Verah loves being in school and has been performing well in the recent exams, however, the father mentions that it has been a struggle keeping her in school due to financial constraints. She has been in and out of school due to school fees arrears.
Verah lives with both her parents and a younger sister, Patricia Atieno. They live in kabiria in an old single concrete house, the house serves as a living room, bedroom, and kitchen. The house is furnished with a double-decker, another bed, a couch, and a few kitchen items at the far-most corner of the room. Vera shares the decker with her younger sister while the parents utilize the other bed.
The house is connected to electricity thus Verah is able to do her evening studies in the night as well as do her homework. They either use a refillable gas or a kerosene stove to make meals. They share a pit latrine and a bathroom with several other neighbors in the same rental plot. The area is squeezed, untidy, and stuffy. However, they have no choice but to keep up with the situation hoping that the future unfolds better days for them.
Verah is disciplined and helpful. She loves doing house chores and spending time with her family. Verah mentions that she would love to be a doctor when she is of age. Her favorite food is chicken and fish. She is a calm girl, reserved, and yearns for success.
