Ruffina, resides with her grandmother and cousin in a modest one-roomed house that has electricity, which facilitates Ruffina’s studies. Like many others in the slum area, her family purchases water since there are no water connections to the houses. Ruffina’s grandmother is a housewife, which makes it challenging for her to provide adequate financial support and meet daily family obligations, especially given the current high cost of living.
Ruffina joined the sponsorship program in 2013 while she was in grade 3. Currently, she is pursuing a certificate in tour guiding and travel operations at the Kenya Institute of Professional Studies. Due to limited accommodation services provided by the school, she commutes daily. With sponsorship support, Ruffina will have the assurance of completing her course and attending school without fail. Her interests are in travelling and her dream is to work in a reputable travel agency as a tour agent.
