The Life Skills Program

Ngong Road Children’s Foundation has been doing an incredible job in transforming the lives of children through various programs. One of the successful programs is the Life Skills Program, which aims to equip young people with essential life skills as they transition to the next phase of their lives.

The Life Skills Program was designed to help students develop important life skills that would enable them to navigate through life successfully. Recently, the program targeted secondary graduates who were aspiring to join post-secondary institutions. The program was conducted for ten days, during which the students were taken through various topics such as conflict management, effective communication, critical thinking, leadership, financial management, and career guidance, among others.

The program was facilitated by a team of experienced professionals passionate about helping

young people achieve their full potential. The facilitators included Senior Caseworkers, post-secondary case managers, financial literacy facilitators, external sexual reproductive health officers, and officers from the Kenya Insitute of Business and Counselling Studies (KIBCO). The team was committed to ensuring that the students received high-quality training that prepared them for the challenges they would face in the future.

Life Skills Program

The Life Skills Program was a resounding success, with over a 95% attendance, which was impressive. The program enabled the students to have a positive and realistic view of their strengths and weaknesses, be objective when choosing their careers, and explore their abilities versus the career world.

The feedback from the training was very positive, making the one-on-one guidance plan sessions fun as the facilitators got deeper into the students’ world. The program was transformational, and the students significantly improved their confidence, communication skills, and critical thinking abilities.

The Life Skills Program is just one of the many programs that NRCF offers and we are committed to ensuring that every child has access to quality education and support that enables them to achieve their full potential. Join us in this journey of transforming lives!

Nancy, the aspiring nutritionist

My name is Nancy and I am 18 years old. My hobbies are playing hockey and reading novels. I am currently reading a novel called’’ Making Life Easy’’ by Dr. Christiane Northrup. I love this book because, in a fast-paced world, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the demands of daily life. However, with a few simple strategies from this book, we can simplify our routines, reduce stress, and create a more fulfilling and enjoyable existence. This book provides practical and actionable tips for making life easier. I also look up to the author of this book as she is one of my role models.

I come from a family of seven. I love white meat, specifically chicken and Rabbit. Last year, I sat for my end-of-secondary school national exams and am excited to join higher learning this year. I am currently spending time at the Elimu Hub, a resource center based at the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation where I am undertaking my life skill sessions. I am learning different skills, including CV writing and job searching trends at the moment.

In the future, I would like to pursue a course in nutrition and dietetics because of the love I have for ensuring every child can get a balanced diet. I would like to meet my role model, Dr. Christiane Northrup, to get more inspiration and I would also like to be a writer just like her.

Dreams In The Sky

My name is Dornel and I am 14 years old. I live with my mom and I have two hobbies: art and playing football. I was inspired to pursue these hobbies by some of my relatives. When I create art, I feel a sense of freedom and joy. It allows me to express myself in ways that words cannot capture.

In 2018, I joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation program which opened doors to endless possibilities in my life. After enrolling in Nelson Mandela Primary School, I was able to sit for my Kenya Certificate of Primary Examinations (KCPE) last year. Currently, I am waiting to join a good high school that aligns with my goals and ambitions, a school that sees the fire in my eyes and the dreams in my heart.

After high school, I would like to pursue a career in aeronautical engineering because of my love for airplanes. I have always been eager to learn how they operate and my ultimate dream is to build planes. I want to use my love for planes to make a difference and help people in the near future. I am grateful to the program for their support and to my sponsor for making it possible for me to get quality education that I know will open doors of opportunities for me.

Empowering Minds for Success: Alumni Employability Training

Ngong Road Children’s Foundation strongly believes in the power of education. Recently, we organized an employability training session for our alumni, led by Mr. Calvin. Over 20 alumni attended the event, which was a huge success. The event focused on providing our alumni with essential soft skills such as communication, teamwork, initiative, and enterprise. These skills are crucial in any professional setting and are highly valued by employers.

In today’s highly competitive job market, graduates need to stand out. Possessing a growth mindset, being adaptable to learning, and embracing technology and social media are key factors that can significantly enhance employability. Mr. Calvin emphasized the importance of emotional intelligence, as understanding and managing emotions can greatly impact workplace success.

We are committed to supporting our alumni on their journey to success. Let’s join hands and empower more young minds for a brighter future!

A journey to engineering inspired by Nikola Tesla

A journey to engineering inspired by Nikola Tesla

My name is Anderson, I am 18 years old, and I live with my parents and brother. My role model is Nikola Tesla a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist who is best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electrical system. He also developed the Tesla coil and the induction motor.

life skills

In my free time, I enjoy drawing and IT. Drawing holds a special place in my heart as it allows me to express my imagination. I recently graduated from high school and plan to pursue electrical engineering and IT because of my skills in electrical installations and cabling.

Currently, the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation is holding a life skills training program that is truly life-changing. We are being taught how to write CVs, improve our communication skills, and learn about the latest trends in job searching, which is mind-blowing. I am excited every time I get to share these life-changing lessons with my schoolmates and friends at home.

I consider myself a confident and courageous person, and I believe I’m empathetic towards others. One of my biggest dreams is to visit the United States of America someday and hopefully meet my sponsor who has been at the forefront of my transformational journey.
