A Brighter Future with Ngong Road Children’s Foundation

My name is Britney, and I had the privilege of joining Ngong Road Children’s Foundation this year. Currently, I’m a student at Jagiet Primary which is one of the program’s focus schools, and I’m in the fifth grade. I find joy in the little things in life, like singing, drawing, and dancing, which fill my days with vibrancy and passion and this is why I joined the dance club. This year has been my best year yet, all thanks to the NRCF program. I am getting quality education, making new friends, and learning new things both academically and socially.

BRITNEY A BRIGHT AND HARD WORKING GIRL

I aspire to become a teacher and share my love and compassion with others. Being a friendly person at heart, I believe teaching is the perfect path for me. In addition to teaching, I yearn to pursue professional dancing as a means of self-expression and physical exercise. But my dreams don’t stop there; I aim to build a beautiful home for my parents and offer them support for their financial needs. Through my hard work, I hope to make these dreams a reality and create a brighter future for my family and myself.

My favorite program at NRCF is the Saturday program. On Saturdays, I get to meet all my friends and we sit down to share the Saturday program meal as we tell stories of how our week has been. This is also the day when I get to dance with my fellow dance group members and now Saturday has become my favorite day of the week. I also love the Elimu Hub, which is a resource center. I especially love the Computer lab where I use the computers for learning and practicing basic computer skills like typing and I also write to my sponsor at the computer lab. I also like to visit the Library when I want to read a storybook or when I need to get learning materials.

I am grateful to the NRCF program for giving me the opportunity to join the program. I am now getting quality education without any interruption and my dreams are now looking more hopeful and achievable.

Godfrey, the Talented Barista and Mixologist

My name is Godfrey, and I’m proud to be an alumnus of the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation Foundation (NRCF). My journey in education and the professional world has been an exciting and transformative one, and I owe much of it to the support and opportunities I received during my time at NRCF.

I began my educational journey at NRCF in 2010 at Jagiet Academy, and it was here that I completed my primary education. In 2015, I embarked on a new chapter when I joined Parklands Boys High School. During my time at Parklands Boys, I wasn’t just a student; I was an active participant in various extracurricular activities. I played hockey and chess, and I also took on the role of a peer counselor, helping fellow students navigate the challenges of their academic journey and mental well-being.

After completing my high school education, I decided to pursue my passion for creating beverages and cocktails. I enrolled at Nairobi Bar School in 2019, where I had the opportunity to learn mixology skills. I earned a Certificate in Barista Skills, which was a three-month program, followed by a six-month Diploma in Professional Bartending and Mixology.

In April 2022, I took my first step into the world of professional mixology and bartending by joining Savoan Harvest in Karen. Initially starting as a bartender and mixologist, I quickly demonstrated my dedication and skills, earning a promotion to the role of Bar Manager within just four months. As a Bar Manager, my responsibilities included maintaining stock levels, preparing cashier reports at the close of business, and devising innovative promotional concepts to boost bar revenue. This experience allowed me to not only showcase my mixology skills but also develop strategic thinking in the field.

In January 2023, I moved to work as a Mixologist at INTI in Westlands, further expanding my experience and expertise in crafting unique and delightful cocktails. I worked here till August 2023. My journey as a mixologist has been a thrilling one, and I look forward to continuing to pursue my passion in this field.

As I seek new opportunities in my career, I am currently on the lookout for a position as a mixologist or barista. I’m excited about the prospect of utilizing my knowledge and skills to create innovative and exciting beverages for customers to enjoy. Additionally, I aspire to venture into entrepreneurship in the future, where I can establish my own establishment and share my love for mixing and crafting beverages with the world.

I am immensely grateful to NRCF for their sponsorship and support during my formative years. Their assistance played a vital role in making my dreams come true and setting me on the path to a fulfilling career in mixology. I am excited about the future, and I will always cherish the memories and experiences that have shaped me into who I am today.

Mildred’s Journey: From Adversity to Inspiration

Mildred is a young woman with a passion for hairdressing. She comes from a family of five and has always been ambitious. In 2015, she joined Ngong Road Children’s Foundation and started her educational journey at Jagiet Academy, where her hard work earned her a slot at Highridge Secondary School.

After completing her secondary education, Mildred followed her passion and pursued an advanced diploma course in hairdressing. She then worked as a waitress and a professional hairdresser to gain experience and save money. In October 2023, Mildred joined the TechMates program to develop digital skills and increase her employability chances. She will be able to take a three-month internship role after which she will transition into freelancing. She also dreams of owning her own salon in a few years.

Mildred is a role model for young people everywhere. She has shown that it is possible to achieve your dreams, no matter where you come from or what your background is. She is an inspiration to us all.

Mildred’s story is a testament to the power of education and the support offered at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation. Your donation or sponsorship will help provide education, health care, and holistic programming to children in need, giving them the skills and knowledge to build better futures for themselves.

Deborah’s story: a perfect example of diversifying skills

My name is Deborah, and I have had a journey of growth and learning that led me to where I am today. It all began back in 2008 when I joined Ngong Road Children’s Foundation as a class one student. Little did I know that the organization would become a significant part of my life, shaping my educational and professional path.

During my primary education, I attended Jagiet Primary School from 2008 to 2015. It was a place where I not only gained knowledge but also developed a strong sense of community and compassion. The values instilled in me during those years continue to guide me today. For my secondary education, I moved on to Sacred Heart Secondary School in Mirithu, where I spent four memorable years from 2016 to 2019.

After completing my secondary education, I decided to take a step towards turning my passion into a profession. From September to November 2022, I enrolled in Vera Beauty College to pursue a certificate course in makeup and eyebrows. This experience allowed me to deepen my knowledge and skills in the world of cosmetics. It was a fulfilling journey where I sharpened my abilities and gained a greater appreciation for the art of makeup. I am currently awaiting graduation from this course.

I have recently, made the exciting decision to join the NRCF Techmates team as a digital marketing intern. I had heard about the program and was immediately drawn to the prospect of gaining practical skills in the fast-paced world of digital marketing. During my three-month internship as a Techmate, I will learn about the different aspects of Digital Marketing such as social media management, search engine optimization, and content creation.

I aspire to leverage the skills I will acquire during my internship to embark on a freelancing journey after three months. Freelancing will not only allow me to apply my digital marketing expertise but also give me the flexibility to explore and take on diverse projects while still allowing me to pursue my passion in the beauty industry.  I am entirely grateful to the NRCF program for the life-changing opportunity of being able to get quality education. I am excited about the future and the opportunities that lie ahead as I continue to develop my skills and make a meaningful contribution to the world.

Changing Lives Through Education: The Story of Gideon

Meet Gideon, a bright and determined boy who loves two things more than anything else: drawing and playing football. He dreams of becoming a lawyer, using his passion for justice to help others. Gideon comes from a big and loving family. He lives with his parents and four siblings. Gideon’s life changed when he joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation in 2019.

Gideon, a remarkable young man

The foundation provided Gideon with an incredible opportunity to pursue his dreams. Through their support, he was able to attend Bukembe Boys, a good-performing secondary school. Gideon’s exceptional performance in Jagiet Primary School earned him this opportunity, and he couldn’t be more grateful.

At Bukembe Boys, Gideon found his true passion for learning. His favorite subjects are English and history, and he excels in both. But his talent doesn’t end there. Gideon is also a talented football player. Together with his teammates, he managed to reach the county level during the secondary school games competitions.

During school holidays, Gideon finds another place to learn and grow – the Elimu Hub. This is a special space where he and other students from the program can gain computer skills while having fun. He loves using computers to create amazing artworks and explore the vast world of knowledge online. But his favorite pastime at the Elimu Hub is watching the very best football players on the screen, trying to emulate their skills and improve his own.

Through his determination, passion, and the foundation’s support, Gideon’s dream of becoming a lawyer is beginning to take shape. He knows that being a lawyer will allow him to fight for justice and help those in need.

The story of Gideon is just one of many success stories made possible by the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation. With their help, countless children like Gideon are given the opportunity to transform their lives through education and support. By supporting the foundation, you can make a difference too. You can sponsor a child like Gideon, donate to the cause, or even volunteer your time to inspire and guide these young minds. Together, we can create a brighter future for all, where dreams come true and obstacles are overcome.
