Gene and Ruby Hermeier, longtime supporters of Friends of Ngong Road and parents to Founder and President, Paula Meyer, both passed away in 2018.
They sponsored Maureen Wambui, who is now a bookkeeper at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, and Karibu Loo, and Fammy Masiza, who is beginning her post-secondary studies.
Gene, a pastor, and Ruby, a teacher, were advocates for children and social justice throughout their lives. A few years ago they extended their passion for all children to have a chance by including Friends of Ngong Road as a beneficiary of their I.R.A.
In 2017 they said, “Our planned gift did not change how we live life today, but it did give us satisfaction and peace knowing that we will leave this place a little bit better for some very needy children. It is really fun to think that even after we are gone, children who don’t have the educational opportunities that our family does will get a chance for a good education. They will then instill education as a value in their children and so on. We get to plant seeds today that could bear fruit for hundreds of years in the future. That is pretty fun.”
Gene and Ruby are missed and loved by many, including their friends and family at Friends of Ngong Road.
